BEAU JEST MOVING THEATRE / PRODUCTIONS

Beau Jest was formed in 1984 by a group of actors who shared an interest in physical theater. They have toured from Maine to Florida, and in theater's from Charleston's Piccolo Spoleto Festival to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Locally, they have appeared at the Boston Arts Festival, First Night, The C. Walsh Theater, the Emerson Majestic Theater, The Lyric Stage, The Boston Center For The Arts, The Peabody House, the North Shore Music Theater, and the Great Woods Educational Forum. Nationally, they have had three Off-Broadway runs, as well as appearances at Lincoln Center, The Touchstone Theater, The Hopkins Center and The International Festival of Movement Theater.

Samurai 7.0, an original production inspired by the epic film "The Seven Samurai", premired June 7, 2006 at the Calderwood Pavilion, Boston Center for the Arts.

The Last Resort is an evening of fun and introspection as several characters find themselves together for a week of fun and escape at the Rondelet Resort in upstate New York.

War Of the Worlds, a futuristic spin on the classic HG Wells novel with the largest cast ever assembled by Beau Jest, premired May 21, 1998 at the Emerson Studio Theater in Boston.

Beau Jest's first production, In Concert, ran in three different theaters in Boston and on tour throughout the East Coast from 1985-1997.

In 1988, their production ofUbu Roi was invited to the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center.

In 1989 they created Motion Sickness, a comic look at the unsettling desire for change.

In 1990, Beau Jest presented the American premiere of Parisian actor Jacques Bourgaux's one man Don Quixote at the C. Walsh Theater and in New York, which was chosen Best Show of the Year.

During the 1990-91 season, they createdA Mall And Some Visitors , featuring guest artists Josh Hilberman, Julia Boynton, and Alfonso Vilallonga and the Cabaret Rose.

In 1992 they wrote The Cardiff Giant, an expose of one of the greatest hoaxes of all time, and presented it as part of the Tower Auditorium series.

1993 saw the premiere of Beau Jest's first show for elementary schools, The Prince And The Pauper , and collaborations with guest artists Vance Gilbert, Adrienne Hawkins, Betsy Salkind, and Josh Hilberman for A Midsummer Night's FunRaiser.

1994 marked the creation of a second touring school show, Treasure Island, and the debut of Krazy Kat, which won the 1995 Boston Theater Award for Outstanding Production.

In 1996, Beau Jest created 8 1/2, and presented Dan Hurlin in The Day The Ketchup Turned Blue . In 1997, Krazy Kat appeared at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, and work began on their latest production.

"Krazy Kat" is currently available for touring. The company is also available for workshops and residencies. Current repertoire for school programs includes Journey to the Center Of the Earth and The Prince and the Pauper. Technical requirements vary for each show: School programs are done on an open stage with minimal props and costumes and require a short technical rehearsal for lighting and sound. Krazy Kat is far more complex, and requires a one day load-in. Upon booking, the producing organization should supply a light and stage plot, as well as a list of the technical inventory.
